Peru is considered an extremely diverse country, given that it contains 84 of the 104 possible "life zones" on the planet. It is also one of the countries that contributes the largest number of food species, including products that are now "globalized," such as potato, sweet potato, corn, peanuts, quinoa, annatto, among others.

In recent years, agriculture in Peru has grown steadily, with the export of non-traditional agricultural products standing out. By the end of 2006, exports of 671 tariff classifications were registered, with the main export products being asparagus, paprika, artichokes, mangoes, grapes, sweet onions and citrus. Currently, Peru is the world leader in exports of asparagus, organic coffee and paprika.
